Huawei Mediapad T5 global variant has been stuck on Android 8 since its release. Chinese variant got the Android 9 with the same hardware but Huawei did not give Android 9 for global users. We decided to do a GSI ROM installation test on this tablet which was successful. We have a famous lineage ROM for this test based on Android 11 and it booted fine. This ROM is designed for P8 Lite 2017 since both devices have the same CPU it worked fine. There could be some bugs in the ROM and I will not be able to fix those bugs, since I am not the developer of this ROM. DarkJoker360 is the original developer of this ROM and TWRP, and all credit goes to him.

Huawei Mediapad T5 Lineage Tutorial:

• Make sure the Tablet running EMUI 8
• Back up all important data from your Tablet, you cannot restore data using Hisuite, so use a different method.
• If you don’t have the bootloader code, Get the bootloader code of your Tablet (Details Here)
• Download installation tools from this link and extract it on your computer (Password=ministryofsolutions.com)
• Download ROM from THIS LINK (Click Here) If you want to use NFC, also download the NFC Patch zip file.
• Extract the file using WinRAR and you will get an IMG file of the ROM
• Copy “lineage-18.1-XXXXXX-UNOFFICIAL-prague.img” to the ROM Installation Tools folder. (XXXXXX is the build date of the ROM)
• Tap 7 times on the build number to enable developer options
• Enable OEM Unlock in developer options (Chinese models don’t have this option)
• Enable USB debugging in developer options
• Open “MAF32.exe” and run the command ” adb reboot-bootloader ”
• The tablet should reboot to fastboot mode
• Now run the command to unlock the bootloader ” fastboot oem unlock XXXXXXXXXX ” (where XXXX is your bootloader code)
• Select yes using volume up and press the power button to confirm.
• Now tablet will perform a factory reset, after reboot reach the Home screen, and enter fastboot mode again.
• Open MAF32.exe and flash TWRP (command example=fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk TWRP_3.4.0-0-warsaw_DarkJoker360_20200611.img )
• Disconnect the tablet from pc and hold the volume up and power, Keep holding until appears TWRP recovery mode
• Swipe to allow modifications
• Connect Tablet with PC and copy required zip files to sd card (Huawei-Decrypt-Emui_8, Open_gapps, and NFC zip if you need)
• Tap on Install > Select storage > choose Micro sd card> tap on “Huawei-Decrypt-Emui_8.zip ” and swipe to flash.
• Go back to the main menu of TWRP
• Now tap on wipe >advanced wipe then tick Cache, Dalvik Cache, Data, Internal Storage, and system Partition and swipe to wipe ( Don’t wipe any other partition)
• Then go back to the main menu of TWRP
• Tap on reboot and select bootloader
• Tablet should enter fastboot
• Now flash ROM with this command ” fastboot flash system lineage-18.1-XXXXXX-UNOFFICIAL-prague.img ” (you can also drag and drop the ROM image if don’t want to type name)
• Once flashing is completed, run this command ” fastboot reboot “
• 1st boot may take 5 minutes, once tablet reboot power off and disconnect from pc
• Enter TWRP mode again
• Tap on Install > Install Zip>Select Storage> SD card> tap on open_gapps zip file and swipe to flash, if you need NFC, then also flash NFC zip and reboot
• You are done
