When Nothing gets into a room, it typically flashes LEDs, pulls all the transparent plastic aside and throws a bit of tech-indie bravado about. But the London-based brand has now branched out onto something, if not revolutionary, for them: lowering the volume on the Nothing Phone 3a Lite. The standard Phone (3a) was a bit extreme when it comes to the “bug-eyed” centered camera module, but that won’t be the case with the Lite. The camera array is now back at the top left again, making it look more like a quality investment in the Phone (3) than a cheap shot. It is 8.3mm thin, and bursts through its thickness rating with an alluring IP54 dust and splash resistance. The most surprising thing for Nothing purists is the Glyph interface. The Phone (3a) Lite has a single, unobtrusive Glyph Light, located near the bottom of the device, rather than a complicated array of strips of light flashing to notify you of your ringtones. It doesn’t do stadium lightshows but it still gets the fundamental elements right. It counts down for your camera timer, blinks for your desired “Essential Notifications” and provides a subtle visual indication when your phone is face down. It’s a nice compromise for anyone who thought Glyph’s interface was too “shouty.
