Recently a user contacted me and asked for help to root his Huawei Mediapad M5 SHT-AL09. And root was achieved without installing TWRP but bootloader unlock is required. This method is tested on SHT-AL09 only, try on other models at your own risk.

Rooting Process

• Backup all important data from tablet to PC
• Unlock bootloader of your tablet (How to unlock ?)
• Download latest Magisk Manager from THIS LINK
• Install Magisk manager on your tablet
• Download update.zip of current build number from THIS LINK  (You should download from Full OTA)
• Extarct the downloaded zip file
• Download Huawei Update extractor from THIS LINK
• In Update extractor settings, disable 1st 2 checksum options, as show in image below. 
• Then select update.app file and extract ramdisk.img
• Then copy ramdisk.img to internal stoarge/sd card
• Open magisk manager , it will offer you to install magisk manager, tap on install, and on next screen tap on “patch boot image” and select the ramdisk.img you have copied on storage.
• Magisk will patch your ramdisk.img , once patching is done, close magisk manager
• Go to file manager and browser to Magisk Manager folder, and look for patched_boot.img, copy to another folder, because computer can not see it if you keep it in this folder.
• Then connect tablet with pc and transfer patched_boot.img to your pc
• Connect tablet in fastboot mode (power off tablet, hold volume down and insert cable)
• Open Minimal ADB and Fastboot , type “fastboot flash ramdisk ” then drag patched_boot.img and drop on CMD window, and press enter.
• File should flash successfully. and rooting has been completed.
• Reboot tablet, open magisk manager, it should say magisk installed, Now install root checker and verify your root access.
• If you are running B123 or lower version, you can download patched boot image from THIS LINK (it will save you lots of time)
