Update Features

Huawei designed EMUI 5.0 based on the newly released Android 7.0. The brand new EMUI 5.0 is inspired by the pure blues and whites of the Mediterranean. The interface is simple and smart, and EMUI 5.0 comes with enhanced, powerful performance that allows mobile phones to operate more smoothly.

[Recommendations]

  • A cleaner, more interactive interface A brand new UI and effects inspired by the blues and whites of the Mediterranean.Simplified gestures, with most operations completed in 3 steps.
  • EMUI 5.0 is more customizable, offering an optional Android App Drawer layout to users.
  • Enhanced features System operations are more fluid, allowing you to view a massive amount of images, browse websites, and perform searches faster.

  • Notifications An optimized design combines shortcuts with notifications to reduce the complexity of user actions. Touch and hold notifications to quickly block messages and notifications. Reminder cards are stacked to save space.
  • Three dimensional task management Tasks are stacked three dimensionally on the UI. Smooth gestures allow users to scroll through tasks by sliding up and down or dismiss tasks by swiping left or right.

[Camera]

  • Camera now supports plug-in management. Infrequently used modes, like document readjustment, are presented as plug-ins to save internal memory on your phone.

[Contacts]

  • Customization and sharing features added to name cards.
  • The sharing feature allows quick sharing of contacts through Bluetooth, Facebook, and other methods.
  • Added a scanner to the search box and lock screen, making it easier to add new contacts.

[Email]

  • Improved how unread emails are tagged in the inbox.
  • Users can now quickly delete, star, and mark emails as read or unread from the left sliding menu.

[Settings]

  • Created a new suggested settings feature that recommends key settings based on the device’s current status.
  • Now, your phone is more capable of adjusting to your habits.
  • Added a newly designed drawer feature. When this feature is enabled, it hides non-system preset apps in a drawer on the home screen, presenting you with a simple and tidy layout.
  • Added a new drawer feature for settings. For settings that take two or more steps to set up, the user can now jump directly back to the main settings page with one gesture.
  • Emergency information added. Users can add their names, blood type, and other information, so emergency services personnel can view this information from the lock screen.
  • Added App twin, a feature that allows users to log in to two different accounts for third-party apps such as WhatsApp and Facebook.

the zip wont open, says it is either or is protected or has damaged files 🙁

  2. Diego Kaku says:

Anyone tried this? Any screenshots? It’s real? How did you find?

  3. Diego Kaku says:

ill try, i hope that not brick my phone

  4. Diego Kaku says:

    after 30%, update fail!
    reboot the phone and ok

  5. Diego Kaku says:

its ok, i ll wait, dont have bootloader unlock

  6. Diego Kaku says:

    i just tried this:
    *********

and shows the update on HiSuite but i have the same “Software install fail” – reboot the phone

  7. JC says:

Installing the 2nd zip cannot be done with method 1

  8. JC says:

I’ll give it a try, thanks for replying! I extracted the zip and it had a folder in it, I think I will have to add everything just to dload as you mentioned.

Question: what does this update zip file contain?

  9. JC says:

Just tried extracting the folder hw_init into dload, didn’t do anything. I even extracted all folders from hw_init into dload and still nothing.

If I try the method that uses hisuite, do I still need this update.zip file? Does the update with this method contains everything?

    Thanks for your support!

  10. Totto says:

This is where the instruction does not seem to be very clear on method 1:

Extract Update.zip and put UPDATE.APP into dload folder ( DONE!)
Put the phone on forced update and wait for UPDATE.APP to be installed (DONE!)
After that “update_data_full_hw_la.zip” rename to “update.zip” and put in dload folder (DONE!)
Install it through forced update ( CANNOT BE DONE AS IT CAN INSTALL ONLY UPDATE.APP, ZIP FILES ARE INVISIBLE FOR THIS METHOD)

The system will keep applying the UPDATE.APP as it was never deleted in the steps provided. Also, once update_data_full_hw_la.zip is renamed to update.zip, the file is not detected by the forced update.

    That’s where I’m stuck!

  11. Totto says:

I got Nougat installed successfully but many apps are missing and bluetooth is not working. As you mentioned, this 2nd file (update_data_full_hw_la.zip) should contain the rest of the apps but I can’t seem to install it.

Do you know if I follow the step that uses HiSuite should install everything else or do I still need to install this 2nd file?

Thanks a lot for your support!

  12. Totto says:

I took a look into the files contained into this zip. I found many APKs which are escencially the missing apps and tried to install those manually and all of them throw an error:

“App not installed. The package appears to be corrupt”. Are these incompatible with Nougat? Are they supposed to work only through the UPDATE.APP contained into the zip file? I think if these are incompatible, thats why the apps are not being installed through the forced update method.

  13. Totto says:

I really appreciate your support through this site, I have confirmed that the 2nd file does not work in any way. I have reset the phone multiple times, installed file 1 (the rom itself) which worked, but 2nd file is ‘installed’ and nothing happens no matter what I do.

The file is indeed incompatible with Nougat for this phone model.

Thanks anyways! Method 3 wont work either as the phone is recognized as on the latest version available.

    • If it is incompatible how it got installed,
Method 3 works, because it installs update without server intervention. So how server can get your version details.
I would suggest you rollback to Marshmallow,
And again try to update using 3rd method

  14. Leandro says:

Actually, its not that the server gets the version, its HiSuite that compares your phone’s version to the firmware to be installed.

    Refer to the image below:
    http://img180.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=58509_captura1_122_641lo.jpg

Even when updater is running, HiSuite detects the latest firmware updated, so once it was installed, it cannot be reinstalled. This method did not install the 2nd file some core apps are not installed, please see images below:

    Notepad missing
    http://img249.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=58931_Screenshot_20170305_213631_122_498lo.jpg

    Calculator missing
    http://img230.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=58932_Screenshot_20170305_213700_122_120lo.jpg

    So the list goes on…

TWRP returns an error while trying to install zip file so that´s discarded.

    Now,

File 2 (the one that contains missing apps) cannot be installed, forced update actually ´acts´ like it´s installing it but after 7 seconds it says ´successfully updated´ but no apps are actually installed.

In plain words, we install the ´basic´ ROM nougat from Huawei but most of the customized apps from Huawei are missing and 2nd file apps cannot be installed.

    • TWRP method works when you are on marshmallow, if you have already upgraded to Nougat then there’s different way to install.
Anyway i suggest you should rollback to Marshmallow and install it again using Hisuite

  15. Leandro says:

Makes sense! Do you know how I can downgrade from this Latin America version to Marshmallow? My phone is C605B354.

  16. Karlos Leshuga says:

I’m from Colombia and I’ve been trying for many hours to update to Nougat but it always throws an error after passing 37% also I try to update it with firmware finder app and it doesn’t work neither, what’s wrong? Could it be my phone, or cust version, or region or what? (Sorry for my bad English)

  17. Hi Karlos Leshuga. I am in Colombia too, and I was purchase one Huawei P9 Plus in Falabella. Please mail me to ********@gmail.com or Whatsapp mobile 320-***** so both, you and me, searching any solution.

  18. Your phone is working, then how you can say bricked?

  19. ALEX says:

This will just install nougat and second file will not. The author acts like he has a Latin American phone himself, however, the screen shots belong to someone else. It’s a fact that this will require to take the phone back to the store as the rom will not fully install all features.

DO NOT TRY THIS TUTORIAL, YOUR PHONE WILL UPGRADE TO A INCOMPLETE ROM AND YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO GO BACK TO MARSHMALLOW!

    • You are right, i don’t have this phone, but guy who has sent screenshot asked me for help, and he used same link and hisuite method to upgrade, if it didn’t worked for you, it’s bad luck

  20. Diego Kaku says:

i tried all methods and fail, but my was missing a OTA update.

im tring now to update to B361.
    http://hwmt.ru/hwmtsite/firmware-database/?firmware_model=vie-l29c605&firmware_page=0
they have 3 new files, i tried using the Firmware Finder App and fail autenthication. now i ll try hisuite method

  21. FDAPena says:
